| President's Message |
Welcome to the RRPAA Web
site! If you are not a
Physician Assistant then continue reading to learn more
about us. If you are a Physician
Assistant, then skip down to “Welcome All PA’s”
for a message.
The RRPAA represents PA’s in the greater Rochester region
of upstate New York. We are a non-profit organization under IRS
Code 501 © 3. Our purpose is to assist members by sponsoring
Continuing Medical Education opportunities, provide members with
information on local, state, and national issues that affect Physician
Assistant’s practicing in the our geographic area of the
country as well as promote healthcare and education in the Rochester
community.
Welcome All PA’s
This web site is designed with you in mind. We have tried to provide
as many links to relevant sites as possible. Also, this is one
the best resources in the Rochester area for job openings for
Physician Assistants. If you are not a member I would encourage
you to join since members can see job postings on our site before
the general public.
It is always so much fun to look back at how things have worked
out. As a long time board member of the RRPAA it sometimes seems
like each year blends into the next and it becomes hard to see
progress without a good point of reference. With that in mind,
I thought I would go back over the last decade to see if we have
gotten anywhere as an organization.
A decade ago we had our first RRPAA sponsored conference (Tough
Decisions for Tough Times) and since that time we have had six
very successful annual conferences. This year will be our seventh
annual RRPAA conference and it looks to be our biggest and most
interesting yet. Our small get togethers that started back in
the early 90’s have turned into one the premier mid-level
medical conferences in the upstate area. Who would have thunk
it!
Along the way the organization has given 22 scholarships to PA
students that attend RIT. That’s right, I said 22. It is
so hard to believe. This year will be 23 and 24 and it looks like
there will be more to come in the future. We have also named two
special PA’s with the “PA of the year award”
and created a benevolent fund. We have put on so many CME Dinners
I can’t even begin to count how many.
And the web site, well, I don’t even know where to start.
The membership management program that Dave Jackson (our webmaster)
implemented this year is so cutting edge it is hard to even describe.
All our routine membership activities can now be handled electronically
and members can access their own account to update information.
That, along with the new face of our website and new content has
this small local organization rivaling many State organizations.
Where do we go from here?
I am “rounding up the troops” and getting the Board
of Directors focused on our March ‘08 all day CME. I have
no doubt that this will be our best CME ever. I don’t want
to give away any secrets…. but we have a venue, location,
and theme change that is designed to spice things up a bit. We
have also overcome some past obstacles and will be offering more
CME Dinners this year as compared to last year. I am also committed
to getting a newsletter to you a few times in the upcoming year
and will soon open up a discussion with board members as well
as the general membership about the direction of our organization
and how we can better serve our membership.
What can you do?
Attend our events, stay a member, and if you really want to be
a part of “Rochester PA History”, then get on our
board. We currently have a great group on our board. Meetings
seem more like a group of friends having fun than a board working
on a project. You can tap on my e-mail anytime and send me a note.
I look forward to hearing from any member regarding our organization.
Take care,
Jim Sutton, RPA-C
